The aim of this project was to explore digital fabrication techniques and how they could be used to combine two different systems into an integrated whole.
This assignment asked us to think about what a cube is in architecture and to create a physical cube of precise dimensions and precise requirements that allowed us to reflect on our ideas and concepts. Form-finding was investigated through physical experimentation.
The second task was to experiment with tensile structures within the constructed cube and then to recreate our final tensile structure within the cube using digital modelling techniques.
The final task was to re-interpret the last iteration of our cube into what one might call an “Un-Cube” made of two systems. The first system is made out of Perspex. We will call this “Fred”. we laser cut  Perspex sheets so that they interlock, but also accept and lock with the second system (we will call this “Ginger”). Inspired by the iconic dance duo Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers; the two two have different movements and personalities but come together in a harmonious bond.
